Foreword
[of
the print book]
At
the present, more than at any other time, it is necessary
to remember the tragic events of the Second World War,
among them the crimes committed against the Jews by the
Antonescu regime.
In many polls performed by some
television stations, it has been found that a high
percent of the interviewed did not know who marshal
Antonescu was and the situation of the Jews during his
government.
Further it has to be considered
that some politicians and historians, as well as other
persons who appear on the screens of some TV stations,
alter the historical reality of this period, inoculating
the dangerous poison of extremism and anti-semitism in
the rank of the youth and less informed
televiewers.
Attention has to be paid to the
fact that some of these commentators entitle themselves
as defenders against the so called accusations brought to
the Romanian people for the crimes committed during the
war.
We want to state that we, the
survivors of these events, have never charged and
associated the Romanian people with these incompatible
deeds of a human being.
For these crimes, the Antonescu
government, the central and local authorities as well as
some extremist and déclassé elements, who
participated at this genocide, are the only to be
blamed.
Of course, a natural question
has to be put. If the Romanian people is not accused why
is it necessary to defend it and against whom?
We believe that it is extremely
dangerous to present as models to the new generations
some leaders who elaborated and applied the policy of
genocide against the Jews.
The publishing of numerous books
and articles which falsify the historic truth and deny
happenings during the Second World War has the same
negative effect.
For this reason we considered as
proper to support the appearance of this
booklet.
Marcu Rozen the author, member
of the Romanian Society of Statistics, is known by his
books "The demographic involution of the Jews in Romania
between the years 1940-2000", published in 1998 (printed
also in Israel, in Hebrew), "The Jews from the Dorohoi
district during the Second World War", published in 2000
and "60 years from the deportation of the Romanian Jews
to Transnistria", published in 2001.
By using a rich bibliography as
well as his personal experience (being the sole survivor
of his family of five persons deported to Transnistria),
the author succeeds to retain the essential and to
present in a concise and accessible style a big amount of
data and information concerning the complex phenomenon,
known in Europe as Holocaust, which includes also the
extermination of a part of the Jews living under the
authority of the Antonescu government.
Behind the barren figures of the
tables, which are attached to this book, there are
numerous destroyed human destinies. Each statement is
based on verifiable data. In his work the author lets the
facts speak for themselves and when they accuse, the
truth has to be disclosed. It is if the written documents
saved in archives would raise their voice on behalf of to
the death convicted, only because they were born
Jews.
We publish this book, which
opens grievous pages, in view to enable to the concerned
reader the knowledge of the truth of this dark period and
to react properly to attempts of forging history and of
propagating extremist and anti-semitic theses.
The value of this book consists
in the fact that the used data are based on official
documents of the Romanian state, such as census,
government statements and so on.
